Lindemans Brewery is a Belgian family brewery based in Vlezenbeek, a small town in southwestern Brussels, that has been running since 1822. The majority of their beers are sours, all made by spontaneous fermentation, and currently have a capacity of 85,000HL. This is a mixed fermentation beer, being a blend of sour lambic, Belgian strong ale, blueberries, blackberries, and elderberries. I thought that maybe feta cheese would go well with this beer, but people seemed to prefer the brie from the SOSAB Flemish red to pair with it instead.
This was semi-hazy and deep amber to brown in colour, with a thin persistent head forming to finish the appearance. The aroma was rich and sweet, reminding me strongly of blackcurrant jelly. It was fairly one dimensional, but I hoped for more complexity in the taste. Unfortunately, the taste was a bit of a letdown, with blackcurrant sweets and a thin blueberry note being the only things noticed. The aftertaste was short, and left a burning in the chest, which wasn’t pleasant.
This was too artificial for me to fully enjoy. It felt like someone had melted blackcurrant sweets into a beer and came up with this Frankensteins monster. I’m not fully convinced, and I’ve had a lot better fruit beers in my time. It’s hard for me to fully recommend this.
