Oskar Blues opened in 1997 in Lyons, Colorado. In 1998 the first beer was brewed in the restaurant’s cellar, and in 2002 they were the first craft brewery in the US to bottle their beer. In 2008, the brewery moved to new, significantly larger premises in Longmont. This is part of Oscar Blues experimental range of IPA. This version contains products from Abstrax hops, a company which extracts and concentrates hops into liquid form to produce bold aromas and tastes. So why is an Oscar Blues beer in a Stigbergets and Founders tasting? Well, quite simply I could only get my hands on 3 Founders beers. I ordered the fourth one twice through different companies, and both times my orders were cancelled or delayed. So as I tried this in the summer and thought it was amazing, I thought it would be perfect to put into the running order.

This poured with a hazy yellow colour and high carbonation. The aroma was massive peach notes, coupled with a slight hits of lemon, tangerine peel and sweet passion fruit. I adored the aroma, and you could smell it even before lifting it up to your face. The body was silky, coating the tongue and walls of the mouth well. The big stone fruit notes continued into the taste and aftertaste, with also some lychee noticed in the back end.

I can understand why this might not be for everyone, but I loved this IPA. Bold and packed full of fruit, this beer really stood out amongst a crowd. Some might think it’s a bit too sweet, but if you’re looking for big, peachy beers, this is going to be the perfect beer for you.
