The Diplomático brand was born in the 1890s within the premises of Destilerías Unidas, a distillery complex located in La Miel in the state of Lara. This rum is named after a group of Venezuelan nobleman from the 19th century who were renowned for their discernment and good taste. Like all Spanish style rums, this has been distilled from molasses and is characterised by a smooth, sweet flavour and lower alcohol content than other styles of rum. This was paired with 85% cacao dark chocolate from Nordic Chocolate.
As I’m not a rum expert and merely a fan, I wont go into too much detail about this. I enjoyed it though, the caramel and honey notes came through strongly with a silky body that was easy to drink. Diplomatico make great rum and even though this is at the budget end of the range, it’s still worth a look if you’re after a no frills sipping rum. I could absolutely buy this again.
