The world lost a true musical icon in 2016 as David Bowie departed this world. He left behind a legacy of decades of music that have inspired countless around the world. One of his personas he created through the years was Ziggy Stardust from the 1972 album “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars”. The character was over the top and flamboyant, so any beer that is clearly inspired by his alter ego has a lot to live up to. This beer was a limited edition collaboration between Stigberget and Magic Rock and it must be said that they have done a good job of capturing Ziggys larger than life attitude. One strange thing is that when trying to research the beer there was almost no reference to the beer or either breweries websites. I find it personally strange that you could make a product and then basically ignore it completely with no pictures or references. Due to knowing almost nothing about the beer except its style, I went into the tasting of this beer blind.

It was cloudy apricot in colour, with a good head that held well. The body was rather dense and laced the glass well. The smell was delightful and bought a plethora of delicious scents. Warm apricot, papaya, hop oil, dried pineapple and sweet grass were just a few of the aromas noted.  It was reminiscent of a summer’s day. The pleasantness continued on the tongue with a very nice round sweetness filled with resin and tropical hits. This died down to be replaced by a gentle hop warmth with pine pulling through hard as well. It was very easy to drink and smooth.

This really was a great beer and I’m sad that it’s a limited edition because I would buy this again in a heartbeat. A lovely beer that was soft, refreshing and packed full of a lot of different elements. It feels like they captured the personality of Ziggy and David himself in this beer. I’m looking forward to seeing future collaborations, as long as I can find them that is!
