I always like to throw in unexpected drinks into the tastings. We have had a few whiskeys and rums over the years, but I thought this would be the perfect time to include aa rum thats been aged for 8 years in imperial stout barrels. Did the sweet chocolate notes affect the rum as much as I expected? Honestly not really.
Don’t get me wrong, it was a nice rum. Smooth with oak and vanilla notes, I had no problem with the sample I tried. I could happily drink this again. I did feel though that I wanted more of the beer character to shine through and it was minimal at best. A nice rum, but I hoped for a bit more. Maybe this is a classic example of getting expectations too high and being let down by the end result. Give it a go if you find it, but temper your reviews before you try.
