Dugges Bryggeri was founded in 2005 by Mikael Dugge Engström and is based in Landvetter, just outside Gothenburg. Starting as a small craft brewery, it has grown into one of the country’s most recognised independent brewers, known for combining traditional brewing techniques with modern innovation. Dugges has built a particularly strong reputation for hop-forward IPAs, fruit-forward sour beers, and experimental collaborations that have attracted attention both in Sweden and internationally. Over the years, the brewery has won numerous awards and is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of the Swedish craft beer movement. This was a surprise 9th beer that the guests didn’t know about until the end, but what a beer to finish on!

This poured black with a creamy tan head that showed excellent retention. The aroma was packed with ripe banana, milk chocolate, toffee, and caramel, with a light roasted malt character in the background. The taste followed through beautifully, combining banana bread and chocolate fudge into a full, smooth body. The finish was long and sweet, leaving lingering flavours of cocoa, caramel, and banana that made this feel more like a dessert than a beer.

I’ve had this in a tasting before and this reminded me on just how good it is. Rich and packed full of flavour, this is about the best banana stout I’ve ever had. If you like banana and chocolate, this is a must.
