Rubis is a fortified chocolate-flavoured wine that is made by blending a fortified Tempranillo red wine base, typically from grapes grown in La Mancha, central Spain, with chocolate essence or premium cacao flavouring. The fermentation of the grapes is halted by adding neutral spirit, leaving residual sweetness before the chocolate infusion is added. Jayish London is a family-run company with decades of experience in the import and export of alcoholic beverages. Its not so often that I’ve had wine in my tasting, but when I tried this in a tasting a few months ago I thought it would be a great fit for this event.

This had a beautiful rich ruby colour and great clarity with a fully body when swirled. There was a big cocoa hit in the aroma along with fruity blackcurrant, with the warming alcohol accentuating both of those. A big sweet chocolate note hits the palate first along with blueberry and black cherry. The aftertaste is long and warming, with the palate left sticky from the thick body.

This was surprisingly very nice, with both the red wine and chocolate room to showcase their flavours. It is definitely something you would want to drink in small amounts, but this would be amazing shared with some friends after dinner. Well worth checking out if you find it anywhere.
