This is part of Amundsen’s range of pastry imperial stouts that has grown famous across the world for being one of the leading sources of innovative pastry stouts. They have produced over thirty-six different D.I.A.C stouts over the years, ranging in flavours but all with the high alcohol and big sweetness. This version was brewed with pilsner, rye, roasted barley, Cara aroma, oats, Carafa Special III, and Carared malts. It was then hopped with Magnum hops, with flavour essences added for aroma and taste.

This was, as expected, thick black in colour and with absolutely no head forming at all. the carbonation was pretty close to zero, with not a single bubble found even when tasted. The aroma was just like sniffing a big cookie, with salty toffee, hazelnuts, peanuts, and white chocolate notes all recorded. These all continued into the taste, with an intense sweetness coupled with milk chocolate and cookie dough. It was extremely sticky on the palate, coating the lips. The high alcohol warmed the back of the throat and chest, but thankfully it never felt boozy. The flavours continued well after swallowing and was simply delicious.

This was a great beer, just as they all are in this range. Amundsen know how to make a good pastry stout, and this is no exception. I would say this is the perfect example of a sharing beer though, as I think it would take some time to get through a whole can of this on your own. As a dessert beer to enjoy after a meal though, you can’t get much better than this.
