Brooklyn Brewery was founded in 1988 by Steve Hindy and Tom Potter in Brooklyn, New York, and quickly became an emblem of the U.S. craft beer movement. In 2020, Carlsberg acquired the brand rights to the brewery in Europe and parts of Asia, for about $130 million. This beer is brewed in partnership with the Stonewall Inn Gives Back Initiative (SIGBI) to support LGBTQ+ activism and grassroots work, and is the official beer of The Stonewall Inn, the historic NYC bar at the heart of the modern Pride movement. It is brewed with Citra hops. When I was planning the beers for this tasting, I knew I wanted to start with a light and easy to drink session IPA to warm up the palate. This seemed like a good choice, and I’m happy to say it was!

This had a light golden haze with a quickly disappearing head. The aroma was very pleasant, with sweet melon, orange, grass, and a fresh lemon zing bringing up the back end. The taste was easy on the palate, with the light fruit notes competing with the grain character. The aftertaste carried on the taste, with the orange peel note gently fading over time. With medium carbonation and light body, this was spritzy and went down easily.

This was an incredibly easy IPA that would be appealing to many lager drinkers. It might not blow any minds, but as a session IPA it does its job very well, like most Brooklyn beers do. I would maybe describe this as a beginners IPA, or a perfect beer to add into an evening as a bit of a palate cleanser. Very nice indeed!
