Welcome to the Umeå Beer Club
This is where we talk beer – Norrland’s best excuse to get together, taste, and have a good time. Since 2018, we’ve been hosting regular meetups to explore new flavours, chat about beer, and just hang out.
Each time we pick a new theme to show off just how insanely many beer styles are out there. Sometimes it’s the classics, sometimes something totally unexpected – but it’s always good vibes in the glass.

Sweden has an amazing selection of craft breweries and in this event we will be continuing our journey through the country in search of amazing beer. This time we will be focusing on the counties in central Sweden, so if you’re looking to find a new Swedish favourite, this is the tasting for you!

With the World Cup just weeks away, we will be holding a blind tasting of 16 different beers, all from different countries. The guests will vote on their favourites until one beer is crowned the champion. Which country will win? You decide!

About the sommelier
Dave Orman was first drawn into the pub world through his love of rock music – it all started back in 2003 at a rock pub in Oxford. Before long, it wasn’t just the music that kept him hooked, but the beer as well (along with all that good stuff about cellar care and real ale). After a few years of hard work and dedication, his efforts paid off: in 2006, he stepped up as pub manager.
In 2008, Dave packed his bags, left England, and began a new life in Sweden. These days, he works in Umeå as the restaurant manager at the Umeå Folkets Hus conference centre. His job’s mix of food and beer sparked a deeper interest, so he went back to studying – and in 2017 he earned his Beer Sommelier Diploma from the Beer & Cider Academy in London.
Since starting the club in 2018, Dave has hosted regular beer and cider tastings, both in person and online. He’s also served as a judge at Nolia Beer Master – one of Norrland’s biggest beer competitions – since 2019, upgrading to head judge in 2021. And in 2024, he took things up a notch by launching his own event:

Nope, we don’t actually have any membership — all you need to do is grab a ticket for the tasting you’re interested in, show up, and have a great time!
We taste a bunch of different beers (some paired with small bites of food), chat about the flavours and aromas we pick up, and compare our impressions. It’s relaxed, fun, and completely pressure-free — no judging, just pure enjoyment!
Of course! Everyone is welcome, whether you’re a beer geek or a complete beginner — no prior knowledge required. The only rule is that you must be at least 18. Come as you are and join us!
