This is a scotch ale that has been aged in oak bourbon barrels and then introduced to essence of maple, cinnamon and sweet vanilla. This was produced using Abbey and Crystal malts along with Nugget and Willamette hops. Scotch ale was first used as a designation for strong ales exported from Edinburgh in the 18th century, and is sometimes termed “wee heavy”. I would say though that this beer is pretty far away from that traditional style though! This is currently rated 97/100 on Ratebeer, and for good reason too, and it’s delicious.

This had a milk chocolate brown colour with a mocha head that held rather well after pouring. The body was thick when swirled and coated the walls of the glass well. The aroma was massive, with big powdered sugar, maple syrup and cinnamon notes dominating the senses. These all followed through straight into the taste, with a hint of burnt honey comb in the aftertaste coming through slowly after swallowing. This was a butterscotch bomb on the tongue, with those deep, sweet caramel notes are the forefront! The body was medium and sweet, but left the palate sticky with its thick coating. The alcohol wasn’t noticeable in the first sip, but grew in the back of the throat as the beer was consumed.

This is a massive beer that I would recommend this is shared with a friend. If you’re looking for a big, sweet and gorgeous beer though, this would be great for you as it’s an exceptional beer.
